Old Harkers Arms
1 Russell Street, CH3 5AL
Prior to 1985, the Old Harkers Arms was the basement of an old warehouse overlooking the Shropshire Union Canal. The building was derelict. Using reclaimed materials such as chemistry lab counters and old mahogany doors to make the bars, adds to the feeling that the pub has in fact been there for at least a century: in the nicest sense!
The pub has a good range of well-kept real ales, which are helpfully described on a chalkboard. A good choice of wines is also available.
The Town Crier
City Road (Opposite Train Stn), CH1 3AE
Modern pub just outside the heart of the City and across the road from the train station. Big screen sports and a large beer garden and a good atmosphere. The ideal first stop if you journey to the game by train.
The Chester Bells
21 Grosvenor Street, CH1 2DD
Expect a good selection of well-kept draught beers and a decent range of standard pub food. Music is quiet enough to allow conversation and there's a small TV in one bar for sport lovers. Redecorated in August 97 (though you wouldn't notice), it also has rooms at £40 a double. A nice little patio in the back is good for summer evenings.
The Dublin Packet
Market Square, 21 Northgate Street, CH1 2HA
This is a place of carpets, polished brass and old prints hanging on the wall. There's a variety of seating for those who like to choose between regular chairs and tables, cosy booths and stools propped against high ledges.
The regulars tend to the far side of middle age. They know what they like and they know how to get it. Sky Sports News is shown in this pub.
This pub was once owned by Everton goalscoring legend Dixie Dean.
The Eight Rights
Gawer Park, CH1 4DA
A family pub situated near to the Countess of Chester Hospital. Good selection of ales on offer and Sky Sports News available. Restaurant menu included and a play area for the little un's.
Telfords Warehouse
Tower Wharf, CH1 4EZ
A fine balance of customer exists, attracted by its friendly staff and large open bar with exceptional selection of European beers, CAMRA rated cask conditioned ales and extensive wine list…
Superbly located on the canal basin this spacious pub enjoys many original features with high ceiling, exposed timbers and brick walls housing industrial artefacts, while the feature glass frontage provides a tranquil scene overlooking the water.
